- Varietal Wines
- Wines made from, and named after, a particular grape variety. In order to name the variety on the label, at least 75% of the blend must be composed of that grape. Example: Cabernet Sauvignon.
- Veraison
- Intermediate stage of grape-berry development. It marks the beginning of ripening, when the grapes change from the hard green state to their softened colored form.
- Vintage
- The year in which the grapes were harvested. “Good year” vintages refer to years with an abundant harvest, a high-quality harvest, or both.
- Viticultural (Viticulture)
- Term for the science of grape production.
- Viticultural Area
- A well-defined region with climate, soil, elevation, and physical features that set it apart from surrounding areas.
- Viticultural Practices
- The care of the vine’s growth and fruit development. The management of rootstock selection, clonal (type of grape) selection, irrigation management, canopy management, pest management/cover crops, and pruning.
