THE GALLO FAMILY VINEYARDS GOLD MEDAL AWARDS
TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT OF ANY KIND NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE DOES NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING.


  2. WHO IS ELIGIBLE: CONTEST ENTRANTS AND PRIZE RECIPIENTS MUST BE LEGAL RESIDENTS OF ONE OF THE FIFTY (50) UNITED STATES OR THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, WHO ARE AN OWNER OF A U.S. BASED FOOD PRODUCER OR FOOD MANUFACTURER OF FOOD RELATED PRODUCT(S) THAT ARE AVAILABLE TO CONSUMERS AT THE RETAIL LEVEL AND WHO HAVE BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR A MINIMUM OF ONE (1) YEAR. ALCOHOL BEVERAGE LICENSEES ARE NOT ELIGIBLE. VOID IN CA, TN, UT, PR, OUTSIDE THE FIFTY (50) UNITED STATES AND WHERE OTHERWISE PROHIBITED BY LAW. Employees of the Sponsor, its alcoholic beverage distributors and retailers, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion fulfillment and/or judging agencies, and the immediate family members of each are not eligible. Contest subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.


  3. SPONSOR: Gallo® Family Vineyards, Healdsburg or Modesto, CA.


  4. HOW TO ENTER: The Contest begins on December 20, 2007 and ends before July 31, 2008. Print out an Official Entry Form available at www.GalloFamily.com and follow the submission instructions. Entrants must provide their complete name, category entered (see list of categories below), product entered, full product description, listing of all product ingredients, product photo no larger that 5” x 7”, brochures, press coverage or other printed materials pertaining to the company and product (if available), approximate retail value, availability/distribution (national/regional), your company’s complete name, address, telephone number, fax number, Web address (if applicable), company principal(s) and company mission statement and history or background and written description of how product adheres to traditional artisanal methods. You must also include your full signature and date. Mail the completed Entry via first class postal mail to: The Gallo Family Vineyards Gold Medal Awards Contest, c/o DeVries Public Relations, 30 E. 60th Street, 14th Floor New York, NY 10022 to be received by February 28, 2008. Limit one product entry per category, per company. You may enter multiple categories but NOT multiple products in one category. Duplicate entries in same category will be disqualified. All entries become the property of the Sponsor. By submitting an Entry, entrants have irrevocably granted Sponsor the royalty-free right throughout the world to use, re-use, copy, publish, republish in whole or in part, edit, add to, modify, and rearrange the Entry in whatever media, including without limitation edit, rearrange, and/or copy the Entry for use in association of Sponsor’s products without further permission, consideration or payment to the entrant, except where prohibited. Entries will not be acknowledged or returned. Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, mutilated, misaddressed, postage due, or otherwise misdirected entries that are processed late or incorrectly, or lost due to computer or electronic malfunction or other error. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED BY FEBRUARY 28, 2008.

    AWARD CATEGORIES

     

    Outstanding Bread/Baked Good – Awarded to bread and baked goods producers who show exceptional craftsmanship in producing artisanal specialty breads and baked goods. Includes batter breads, quick bread, unleavened breads, cakes, crackers, cookies and biscuits (savory or sweet).
    Outstanding Dairy – Awarded to producers of dairy-based products who show exceptional craftsmanship in producing artisanal dairy goods. Includes cheese, yogurt, butter, milk, ice cream, etc.
    Outstanding Meat and Charcuterie – Awarded to producers who show exceptional craftsmanship in producing exceptional meats and meat products. Includes charcuterie, sausages, bacon, white and dark meats, poultry, game, etc.
    Outstanding Fish and Seafood – Awarded to producers who show exceptional craftsmanship in producing exceptional fish and seafood products. Includes fresh fish and seafood, smoked, canned, ready to serve, jarred, etc.
    Outstanding Confectionery Good – Awarded to producers of confectionary goods who show exceptional craftsmanship in producing specialty artisanal confectionary products. Includes Chocolate, specialty candies, fudge, coated nuts, desserts, etc.
    Outstanding Condiment, Oil or Vinegar – Awarded to producers of condiments, oils and vinegars who show exceptional craftsmanship in producing specialty artisanal products. Oils and vinegars include vegetable, olive, infused oils and vinegars, balsamic, flavored or specialty oils and vinegars. Condiments include pickles, chutney, mustards, jellies and preserves (savory and sweet), marmalades, tapenade, salsa and other dips, dressings, marinades, sauces etc.
    Outstanding Fruit or Vegetable – Awarded to producers/growers who show exceptional craftsmanship in producing fine fruit and vegetable products. Includes fresh fruit and vegetables, canned, pickled, dried fruit or vegetables.
    The All Artisanal Award – Awarded to the family-owned artisanal production company that best embodies an industry standard for exceptional artisanal food production and has stood as an inspiration for other artisanal and food industry professionals. The award is open to producers of any single or combination of Gallo Family Vineyard Gold Medal Award categories.


  5. JUDGING CRITERIA/WINNER SELECTION: Entries will be judged by a distinguished panel of judges representing various segments of the food industry. One (1) Grand Prize Winner per category, for a total of eight (8) Grand Prize Winners will be selected based on the following criteria: Product Quality (0-30 points); and Product taste (0-30 points). Foods will be tasted blindly, and judges will come to agreement on the Grand Prize winner based upon consensus of quality and taste and the entrant with the highest amount of points in each category. Entries will be judged on or about March 28, 2008. In the event of a tie, the tied entrants will be re-judged by an additional judge who will serve as a tie-breaker using the same criteria as outlined herein. Decisions of judges are final and binding on all matters relating to this Contest. All questions about the contest rules and criteria should be directed to gallofamily@devries-pr.com.


  6. PRIZES AND THEIR APPROXIMATE RETAIL VALUE (“ARV”): EIGHT (8) GRAND PRIZES: The ARV for each Grand Prize package will be approximately $5,000, for a total ARV of $40,000. Each Grand Prize consists of a $5,000 cash prize, an annual individual membership to the Chefs Collaborative (a non-profit organization) including membership dues and all rights/privileges to a full individual membership, a trip for the Winner and one (1) guest to attend the Gallo Family Vineyards Gold Medal Awards celebration luncheon in New York, NY in Spring 2007. Each Grand Prize consists of round trip coach air transportation from the major commercial airport nearest Winner’s permanent residence to New York, NY, two (2) night’s hotel accommodations (one standard room, double occupancy) at a hotel designated by Sponsor.
    • In addition, the family owned business deemed the winner of the "All Artisanal" award will receive in addition to the above prizes, a trip for the winner and one (1) guest to attend the Gallo Family Vineyards tasting booth at the Aspen Food & Wine Festival in June 2008 where they will have the exclusive opportunity to showcase their winning product alongside the Gallo family and a Gallo Family Vineyards supported print advertisement touting their win in a national culinary magazine in mid to late 2008**


    For attendance at the Gallo Family Vineyards Aspen Food & Wine Festival tasting booth, the “All Artisanal” and one (1) guest will receive round trip coach air transportation from the major commercial airport nearest Winner’s permanent residence to Aspen, CO, three (3) nights’ hotel accommodations (one standard room, double occupancy, standard room rate/tax only) at a hotel designated by Sponsor.

    Ground transfers to and from hotel and destination airport, to and from hotel and Awards ceremony will be provided at Sponsor’s expense, or at the winner’s expense to be reimbursed by Sponsor with a per day allotment of $50.00 per day. Grand Prize Winners are solely responsible for all federal, state, and local taxes on prizes, and for any and all meals, ground transfers between Grand Prize Winner’s residence and airport of departure, ground transfers in and around New York (not stated herein), gratuities, travel upgrades, personal incidentals and any other expenses not specified herein. No substitution, assignment, redemption for cash, or transfer of any prize permitted except that Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value in the event that an offered prize is unavailable. The approximate retail value of each prize may vary based on the commercial airport nearest winner’s residence. Grand Prize Winners must travel on dates as designated by Sponsor. In the event a Winner cannot travel on dates designated by Sponsor, Winner may forfeit prize and Sponsor may select an alternate winner for that category based on the judging criteria outlined in Paragraph #5, provided sufficient time remains prior to the Trip. Travel subject to availability and other restrictions. If required to travel, Each Winner and his/her guest must have and bring to the airport of departure valid driver’s license with photo or comparable identification. Grand Prize Winners must supply Sponsor with their social security numbers for tax purposes. Grand Prize Winner and guest must travel on the same itinerary. Grand Prize Winner’s guest must be 21 years of age or older at time of travel. Sponsor shall not be responsible for any cancellations, delays, diversions or substitution or any act or omissions whatsoever by the air carriers, hotels or other transportation companies or any other persons providing any of these services and accommodations to passengers including any results thereof such as changes in services or accommodations necessitated by same. Sponsor shall not be liable for any loss or damage to baggage. If a Grand Prize Winner becomes disabled or cannot otherwise fully enjoy the Grand Prize package due to illness, Sponsor shall be relieved of liability for fulfillment of the prize award and no other compensation in lieu of the Grand Prize package will be awarded.


  7. CLAIMING PRIZES/RELEASES: Eligibility, age and prize claim by Grand Prize Winners are subject to verification, which may include proof of number of years in business. Grand Prize Winners will be notified by overnight mail delivery on or about April 1, 2008. Sponsor is not responsible for fraudulent calls or E-mails made to entrants not by Sponsor. Potential Grand Prize Winners must sign before a notary and return an Affidavit of Eligibility/Prize Acceptance/Liability and (where legally permissible) a Publicity Release Form within ten (10) business days of receipt. Grand Prize Winner’s guest must sign and return a Release of Liability/Publicity Form. Non-compliance may result in disqualification and the prize may be awarded to an alternate Grand Prize Winner for that category based on the judging criteria outlined in Paragraph #5, provided sufficient time remains prior to the Grand Prize Trip. If a Grand Prize Winner notification is returned as undeliverable, Grand Prize Winner is ineligible, or Grand Prize Winner declines a prize, the prize may be forfeited and the prize may be awarded to an alternate Winner for that category, based on the judging criteria outlined in Paragraph, #5, provided sufficient time remains prior to the Grand Prize Trip.


  8. GENERAL: By entering this Awards program and/or accepting a prize, entrants: (1) agree to be bound by these Official Rules; (2) agree to release Sponsor, its alcoholic beverage distributors and retailers; affiliates, subsidiaries; advertising and promotion fulfillment and/or judging agencies and all related entities from all liability, claims, action, or proceedings relating to the Contest and from injuries or damages relating to acceptance or use of the prizes; and (3) agree to share information contained in their entry with E. & J. Gallo Winery and the Contest administrator and (4) consent to the use of their names, voices, pictures, likenesses, entries, and product(s) for editorial, publicity, advertising and promotional purposes in any medium throughout the world in perpetuity without additional compensation unless prohibited by law. Winners do not have permission to use Sponsor logos on their packaging or in other marketing efforts, without prior Sponsor approval.


  9. WINNERS LIST/OFFICIAL RULES: To receive a list of Grand Prize Winners, (available after July 1, 2008), or a copy of the Terms and Conditions, send a self-addressed, stamped #10 envelope indicating “winners list” or “official rules” to: The Gallo Family Vineyards Gold Medal Awards Contest , 30 East 60th Street, New York, NY 10022.
