2001 Frei Ranch Vineyard
Cabernet Sauvignon
Dry Creek Valley

Originally planted in the late 1800s, our family's Frei Ranch Vineyard is located in the cooler, hillside benchlands of the Dry Creek Valley. The soil is a combination of gravel, clay, and loam. The unique combination of climate and soil at Frei Ranch Vineyard produces Cabernet Sauvignon grapes with firm tannins, dense colors, and intense aromas and flavors of concentrated cherry, berry, plum, and spice.

This is a blockbuster year for Frei Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon. The aromas of licorice, cola, sassparilla, bay laurel, blackberry and briar leap from the glass. On the palette, the flavors explode into layers of toast, cassis, blackberry and mulberry.  Additional flavors of fruit compote, huckleberry, and jam are pumped out on the long lingering finish.

This wine is an elegant complement to dishes made with beef, lamb, and pork.

The detailed Winemaker's Notes are available here.
