Regions

California's rivers, mountains, valleys and extensive coastline carve the state into five very distinct growing regions, North Coast, South Coast, Central Coast, Central Valley and Sierra Foothills. Each is comprised of numerous appellations and sub-appellations with their own unique geographic and climatic characteristics.

North Coast - Sonoma County
The North Coast is comprisesd of five growing areas. Julio Gallo believed that Sonoma County, with its 11 different appellations, has had the most diversity and potential to be the finest growing region in California. Gallo currently owns seven vineyards in four appellations of Sonoma County.
